Thailand Trains

I have to admit or may be confess I like trains. I like them so much that I enjoy the Automated People Mover at Atlanta’s airport and on the Airtrain at JFK airport New York I’ve spent time traveling between all the terminals and took a side trip out to Jamaica Station during a layover. But still I need to ride out to Howard Beach when I have my next layover there. I even enjoy the quick trip on Gatwick’s [...]
Speak Thai. Enjoy Thailand.
Here is you first lesson in learning some simple things to help you through your Thai travels and oh boy is this Interesting! When in Thailand do as Thailand does. Remember that if you are male, it is courteous to end the sentences with “krap.” For females, it is courteous to end with “ka.” For example a man would say, Khob khun krap, but a woman would say Khob khun ka. Now that’s a good start. Now for [...]
PGA Golf Tournaments
The PGA Golf Tournament, more commonly known as the PGA Tour, is conducted for male professional golfers in both North America and the United States. This tournament is run by the PGA TOUR officials that are based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. This tour became its own tournament in 1968, after detracting from the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. The PGA TOUR conducts forty-three of the week-to-week tournaments in which professionals participate. No matter the event the professional participate, each [...]
Extremists Raid Thai Military Camp
During the night of January 20th, a group of insurgents attacked a Thai military post near the mountains in Narathiwat’s Rangae district. 4 thai soldiers were killed and 13 were wounded. Though that may be few for a thirty minute gun fight, the stakes could be higher next time. During their raid, these insurgents were able to make off with a huge cache of stolen weapons and ammunition totaling in 60 guns including M16 rifles and handguns and 4,000 rounds. [...]
Shootings Result in Two Dead Thai Police Officers
Two police officers in Kamphaeng Phet, one of Thailand’s northern provinces were killed on January 13th. One was seriously wounded. After arresting 54-year-old Kampolsak Phrikthunglate late Tuesday night on charges of drunk driving, officers loaded the man into the police vehicle and took off down the road. Due to an unfortunate oversight, the officers had forgotten to search the man before placing him in the back seat. The man pulled an 11mm pistol from his person and allegedly opened fire. [...]
Do People Give More When It Hurts?
Recently, I’ve been reading a book called The Science of Giving. It covers a range of basic studies about the psychology of giving and charity, and they have a number of different theories about how things work. But there is one in particular that stood out to me. Christopher Olivola has recently written his own book, publishing various studies on what he calls the “martyrdom effect.” The bottom line is that people feel more motivated to give when it hurts. [...]
How to Create a Non-Profit Organization
Non-profits provide a tax shelter for both the individuals running it and others. Whether you happen to be on the board, members of which often make a considerable amount of money, or you are donating to that organization, you get tax breaks and they motivate you in other ways to take part. It’s not all charity, and I’ve been surprised by some of the groups that quality to call themselves “non-profits”, especially when some board members are being paid ridiculous [...]
Vittana: Educating the World
In the US, the average college student earns more than someone with only a high school degree. This is offset by many mine workers, construction workers who work overtime, and other laborers. But a college graduate is more likely to get what some would consider to be a better job, they have better job security, and unless you are talking about social workers, they make more money while working fewer hours. College Graduates Make More Than Non-Graduates According to stats [...]
Animal Legal Defense Fund
I’ve always supported animal rights, but I’ve never supported PETA. They are obviously an extreme organization, and they have done more damage to some animals than good. While I agree that I’d rather see Michael Vick playing football than abusing animals, realistically the two are not opposite. Obviously, he was known for being a part of both at the same time. And realistically, that kind of position is a privilege that most of us could never dream of. It’s a [...]
