During the night of January 20th, a group of insurgents attacked a Thai military post near the mountains in Narathiwat’s Rangae district. 4 thai soldiers were killed and 13 were wounded. Though that may be few for a thirty minute gun fight, the stakes could be higher next time. During their raid, these insurgents were able to make off with a huge cache of stolen weapons and ammunition totaling in 60 guns including M16 rifles and handguns and 4,000 rounds. [...]

Two police officers in Kamphaeng Phet, one of Thailand’s northern provinces were killed on January 13th. One was seriously wounded. After arresting 54-year-old Kampolsak Phrikthunglate late Tuesday night on charges of drunk driving, officers loaded the man into the police vehicle and took off down the road. Due to an unfortunate oversight, the officers had forgotten to search the man before placing him in the back seat. The man pulled an 11mm pistol from his person and allegedly opened fire. [...]
